Retroactive Pricing
What it looks like: "New pricing applies to the current billing period."
The Trap
- On day 20 of a 30-day cycle, the company announces a 50% price increase. It applies immediately — including the 20 days you already consumed at the old rate.
- On an annual plan, retroactive pricing mid-cycle could mean a massive catch-up charge.
- "Immediately" means the moment notice is sent, not the start of the next billing period.
- You have no chance to cancel before the new rate applies to already-used days.
Pricing Change Types
| Type | Impact | Fairness |
|---|---|---|
| Next cycle | New rate from next billing period | Fair |
| Current period | New rate from today in current cycle | Aggressive |
| Retroactive entire period | New rate from day 1 of current cycle | Trap |

Your Action Plan
- Search for "current billing period" in any pricing change section. If changes apply to current period → trap.
- If you receive a mid-cycle price change, respond: "Please apply new rate from my next billing cycle."
- If a retroactive charge appears, dispute as unauthorized.
- For annual plans, request a price lock guarantee for the full term.
